At Murray Media Group, in the role of lead designer of specialty magazines I get to work one-on-one with clients to design a custom publication. The first one I completed was the Gainesville Spotlight magazine, a 32 page full-color, print version developed over a four week period. It features photographic imagery, seasonal articles and back-to-school information. The district had brand signature colors, a mascot and their motto featured throughout to capture school spirit. This is a memorable keepsake for the school children and their families as well as a promotional piece to attract new students. The Spotlight is published twice annually, so I designed their 2022 Winter issue as well.
The second school magazine I designed was for a new client, the Edcouch-Elsa ISD in South Texas. This was their first magazine and it is bilingual; half in Spanish. I brain-stormed and conceived of a name for their masthead: The Hive Report, to pay homage to a school mascot; the yellow jacket. I designed a new color palette, font family and graphics to convey a school identity using their online presence and social media as a style guide. The Spanish section was flipped upside down to create a unique reading experience, for a spanish demographic.
Argyle ISD contributed the cover art for their fall issue of Insights, consisting of a digital collage of sports-related imagery. I designed the cover to accent a Lone Star Cup trophy overlaid on top. Argyle High School won this year’s championship again for the 2021-2022 school year. The eagle is their mascot, and the signature color of red was featured prominently throughout. This issue had a quick turnaround and a lot of photographic content.
The Crandall Crusader was published again this winter. This issue was their second print run with the Murray Media Group. I helped establish a more consistent brand identity, through the formation of a color palette, font guide and graphic imagery. A pirate was their mascot, with the signature colors of yellow, black and navy.
